Tuareg Traditional Chat Chat Necklace - Engraved Silver and Onyx

Lovely delicate Tuareg necklace featuring seven hand-etched, tent-shaped pendants known as chat chat. Black beads are onyx. The seven tents stand for the days of the week, and seven is often seen as a lucky number in Tuareg society. Very eye-catching and unique. Proceeds from the sale will directly benefit artist and his family.  Total Length of Pendants: .9" Total Necklace Length: 16" The Tuareg are traditionally independent nomadic herders, crossing the southern Sahara desert by camel. Influential in the spread of Islam, they produce no masks or figures--prohibited in Islamic society--but instead create an impressive world of traditional, abstract, beautiful, functional objects of leather, wood and metal.
